If You're Interested in Becoming Roman Catholic
The process by which those who are not Roman Catholic can inquire into becoming members of the faith community is called the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA). This is a gradual process whereby adults who are not baptized or who have been baptized into another Christian faith tradition are initiated into the Roman Catholic church. The rite of initiation is likened to a spiritual journey_varied, individual, and free. After a period of Inquiry, a person may decide to formally enter into the process and begin the period of Catechumenate, during which s/he becomes familiar with the Catholic way of life. After this time of preparation, the person begins the period of Purification and Enlightenment, six weeks of intense preparation for receiving the Sacraments of Initiation at the Easter Vigil. Following the celebration of initiation, the newly-received member experiences the joy of being part of the faith community by entering the period of Mystagogy, a time when one explores and experiences the fullness of Christian life.
Throughout the entire journey, the local faith community participates with these adults by offering hospitality, prayer and example, and by ministry as sponsors and catechists.
For more information on the process of becoming a Catholic Christian, please call the Pastoral Associate at the Parish Office.
