Outreach Information

St. Alphonsus Faith Formation Outreach

Outreach is an important part of the Faith Formation program for grades 6 - 10.  Outreach provides students an opportunity to put what they are learning in Faith Formation into action.  Each student must sign up for at least one outreach session - outreach counts as a class and attendance is taken.
Seventh through tenth grades participate in service oriented outreach activities.  Each student needs to sign up and attend at least one session during the year.  Sign up is done through Signup Genius.

Sixth Grade: 
The sixth graders will be collecting items for The Robyn's Nest (part of Children's Hospital of Wisconsin).  The Robyn's Nest houses new and gently used clothing, hygiene products, infant items, toys, books and other household goods.  The Robyn's Nest provides these items free to families in the foster care system as well as those identified to have unmet needs through Children's Hospital of Wisconsin. Additional details about this collection will be given later.
Seventh Grade: 
The seventh graders will be supplying snack bags for the after school homework program at the Salvation Army.  The Salvation Army.  The Salvation Army provides family housing for those in need.  During the after school homework program, the children have access to tutors and are each given a snack bag filled with various treats.
Each seventh grader has to bring in 25 individually wrapped, prepackaged snacks/treats.  Some examples of what is needed include:  animal crackers, goldfish crackers, granola/nutrition bars, cookies, raisin/dried fruit etc.
The students will meet at the St. Alphonsus Parish Ministry Center to assemble the snack bags.
Eighth Grade:
The eighth graders will be serving lunch and refilling beverages at The Open Door Cafe.  The Open Door Cafe, located at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in Milwaukee (812 N Jackson St. Milwaukee, WI  53202) provides free meals to needy families.
Ninth Grade:
The ninth graders will be volunteering as food servers at the Milwaukee Rescue Mission.  The Milwaukee Rescue Mission mission statement is "In response to God's grace through Christ, we compassionately serve men, women and children who are homeless, hungry or poor to help them become whole in body, mind and spirit for the glory of God.  "whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.Matthew 25:40".  The Milwaukee Rescue Mission is located at 830 N 19th St. Milwaukee, WI  53233.
Tenth Grade:
The tenth graders will be volunteering as food servers at The Gathering.  The Gathering is a community of guests, volunteers and staff united by a common goal:  to feed the hungry in body, mind and spirit.   The Gathering serves food at several locations.  The location we volunteer at is located at Christian Faith Fellowship Church East (724 S Layton Blvd, Milwaukee, WI  53215).
