Hi, my name is Mary Patterson. I've enjoyed teaching 5K students at St. Alphonsus for ten years. Kindergarten is an exciting and magical age. The children come to school with unparalleled enthusiasm and curiosity; Ready to plunge into the world of literacy and learning. A very social age, sharing, caring and navigating friendships are all hallmarks of kindergarten.
My interest in teaching was apparent at an early age. When I was 7 years old, I received a large chalkboard as a birthday present. My father hung it in the basement and “school” was in session. My youngest brother, younger sister and several neighborhood children were my first pupils. Much later, I graduated from UW Milwaukee and accepted a teaching position with Milwaukee Public Schools. I enjoy teaching all children but my first LOVE has always been kindergarten.
As an educator, I've always viewed myself as a life-long learner. While employed by MPS, I attended Cardinal Stritch and earned a Master’s Degree. The focus of my study was Early Childhood Education. I enjoyed teaching in Milwaukee for thirty years and left in 2009 when I accepted my current position at St. Alphonsus School. Teaching in a Catholic School felt like returning home. As a child, I attended twelve years of parochial school and graduated from Pius XI High School.
My husband and I currently reside in Delafield. We are blessed with two grown sons and a wonderful grandson. My favorite pastimes include hiking, biking, swimming, reading and traveling. Once empty nesters, my husband and I became interested in swing dancing and have since embraced the ballroom scene.
I am proud to be a member of this dynamic community. Our staff is professional and dedicated. Our Parents are active partners in their child's education and our Parish is a thriving Catholic community. I share your belief that your child is a precious gift from God and I take my responsibilities seriously.
