Gateway to Technology

St Alphonsus Receives a $30,000 grant to help implement Gateway to Technology!

To borrow a quote from Rob Preston (Vice President, Information Week), “STEM education is about much more than job training; it's about preparing people to think and function in an increasingly technical society.”  Using an integration of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) concepts in project-based lessons will help our students foster high level thinking skills that can transfer to all areas of learning.

Gateway to Technology (GTT) is a STEM curriculum offered in modules through Project Lead the Way for Grades 6th through 8th.  The curriculum integrates Science, Technology, Engineering Concepts, and Math in a project-based learning and hands-on approach that is exciting and fun for all types of learners.  It relates technology to students’ daily lives and promotes communication and collaboration by emphasizing a team approach. This method utilizes the strengths of each team member to accomplish the goals of the project while ensuring that students of all ability levels are integrated into the process.

Implementing this program will keep St. Alphonsus on the cutting edge of grade school education, and we are very excited to be able to offer this to our children.
