St. Alphonsus’ Scrip Program
Scrip Order Form What Is Scrip?
Scrip is a term that means “substitute money”. When you purchase scrip, you’re purchasing negotiable gift certificates and prepaid cards that are used just like cash. You can use scrip to purchase everyday items like food, gasoline, clothing, and other essentials, and with every purchase, you earn revenue for
yourself and St. Alphonsus School.
How Scrip generates revenue for St. Al’s
Large scrip suppliers act on behalf of churches, schools and other non-profit organizations to purchase large amounts of scrip from grocery stores, department stores, and other retailers. Because the scrip is purchased with cash up front, the participating retailers offer a substantial discount. St. Al’s buys the scrip from the large scrip suppliers at a discount, and re-sells the certificates to families like yours for full face value. The discount – from two to fifteen percent or more – is our school’s revenue.
Scrip is "shopping cart fundraising”
Scrip is a popular fundraiser because families don’t have to sell anything. School families and other parish members produce revenue by making regular household purchases you would make anyway. Groceries, gasoline, clothing, toys; even gifts can be purchased with scrip.
How can Scrip help your family directly?
Two years ago, St. Alphonsus school families were offered the opportunity to participate in “T.R.I.P.”, which stands for Tuition Reduction Incentive Program. What this means is that 2% of your Scrip purchases can be credited back to your family in the form of a voucher, which can be used toward your monthly tuition payment, or annual materials or Spanish fees. Last school year, over $20,000 went back to our school families, with 49% of participating families earning over $100 each.
Where can you get Scrip?
Scrip is available for purchase through Thursday backpack mail (please send orders in by Wednesday), on Friday mornings (between 7:30-8:30 am) in the school lobby, and before and after weekend Masses in the Community Room.
