Future City 2008 Wrap Up Our Future City State Champs received their national scores this week, and once again we offer them our sincere congratulations. The team finished 13th in the entire nation and tied for 5th in the subcategory of “Oral Presentation”. That score in the speaking category was actually higher than the eventual national champions! The team scored 10th in their computer “City Map Score” and “Essay” categories and finished 11th for their physical model. We are proud of all our Future City teams!!! (and we’re beginning to gear up for next year……) FUTURE CITY STATE THREE –PEAT! Our Future City team, “Sicuro Popolo” won the state championship at MSOE on January 19th, 2008. This marks the 3rd straight year that our super students from St. Al’s have captured the state crown. We had three teams in the state competition with a total of 17 students. All of their work revolved around this year’s topic: Using nanotechnology to monitor the safety of the city’s infrastructure. The “Sicuro Popolo” team - State champs are Kelly, Logan, Joe, Louis, Paul, and Nathan.
They also earned the “Peer Award”, the “Best Transportation System” award, and an “Exemplary Model” award. The “Rio Curvado” team made up of Corey, Brandonl, Kenan, and Sean won an “Exemplary Model” award.
The “Blue Shores” team members are Justin, Kristin, Lee, Zack, Nate, Patrick, and Troy. They won the “Best Use of Recycled Materials” award and the “Best Essay” award.
All 17 of our students put forth tremendous effort to come up with exceptional projects. We are all delighted with our students’ accomplishments!! |
